Thornewood Girls Score Big at NAAHSA World ChampionshipsWhat a week it was for the “Team Thornewood” at the North American Arabian World Championships Horse Show, August 24-27, 2011. Two fillies made the trek to Lexington, Virginia, to compete in the this inaugural show: Representing Misty Star Arabians of Bridgewater, New Jersey, was Misty Star MSA (Mishaal HP x Bint Bint Shahsria) and Thornewood’s own Bint Bint Felicia TF (Mishaal HP x Skyy). We couldn’t have been more proud when Misty Star MSA, handled by Ted Carson, was named Jr. Champion Straight Egyptian Filly, and Bint Bint Felicia TF, with Shawn Crews on the lead, was named Reserve Jr. Champion Straight Egyptian Filly! This win for Misty Star’s owner, Emily Schmidt, was even more special since she was the first recipient of the Jim Sirbasku Memorial Trophy, awarded in honor of Jim for his devotion to, and enthusiasm for, the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse. Despite arriving in Virginia during an earthquake, the show was quite an event. The NAAHSA made a great beginning for such a unique horse show. With ample room to grow, this show will really be one to watch in the future. The horses in attendance were of the highest caliber, and the Virginia Horse Center, set in the Shenandoah Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is a marvelous facility. And Lexington, replete with Civil War history, provided Richard with lots of “non-horse show stuff” to do! Thornewood is already looking forward to next year’s competition at the North American Arabian World Championships, and a return visit to Lexington, Virginia. |

Horses of Thornewood Grace Nouveau Magazine’s CoverCalling itself that which is “in touch with the human spirit,” Nouveau, the magazine of the Delaware Valley, chose to feature the horses, people and lifestyle of Thornewood for the cover article of their August 2011 edition. “We were thrilled when we were notified by the editor in chief,” notes Richard. Soon the farm was thrown into a bit of a frenzy, as there were meetings with the author, and several photo shoots to compile the information and pictures. Written by Carla Merrolla Odell, with photos by Glenn Race, the story showcases the unique lifestyle of Thornewood Farm enjoyed by Lisa, Richard, and their friends and clients. “Bottom line is,” Lisa exclaims, “we’re delighted with the outcome, we think it’s a great article. And the horses seemed to enjoy it also. In fact, we’ve heard that Soleil TF and Rhythym and Blues, both featured on the cover, have been spotted giving autographs!” Full article available here. |

Thornewood Excels at Egyptian EventFor the past 31 years, horse enthusiasts from around the globe have traveled each June to Lexington Kentucky for a week-long celebration of the Egyptian Arabian horse. It is an event like no other, replete with celebrations, educational programs, parties, and the most competitive horse show for Egyptian horses in the world. This year, Thornewood and our clients had our greatest showing thus far: three horses, four top-tens in the most competitive of competitions! “Team Thornewood,” represented by Lisa and Richard, Joe Piccolo, Emily Schmidt, Patty Paige, Joan Rudd, and Ken and Donna Drake made the trek by caravan, full of excitement, anticipation, and a big dose of nervousness. Upon arrival we quickly realized what we were up against. Two things for certain: the horses competing and the weather, both HOT, HOT, HOT! Opening day of the show Misty Star MSA took a second place for Emily Schmidt of Misty Star Arabians in a very competitive World Class Two Year Old Fillies Class. Quite a horse show debut for Emily and her beautiful filly! Next up was Thornewood’s own Bint Bint Felicia TF in the Two Year Old Filly Futurity. After all the girls had entered the ring, Richard exclaimed: “Wow, a class of 23 Marilyn Monroes!” We were proud as could be when the score cards were tallied and Felicia placed fourth! In the highly competitive Egyptian Breeders Challenge Yearling Colt class, it was DK Arabians’ Jaleel Amal DKA, expertly handled by Ken Drake himself, bringing home the next top ten ribbon. While Ken, in the ring was looking cool as a cucumber, the same could not be said for his adoring wife, Donna, whose nerves got quite the workout! And in the Yearling Colt Futurity, Jaleel Amal DKA brought home another top ten, with Luis Paniagua on the lead. Many thanks to Judy, Shawn, Luis, and the Arabians Ltd. crew for presenting our “kids” and to all our friends and supporters cheering us on via the live-feed. |

CNBC Covers Thornewood FarmWe're bursting with pride over our recent interview with CNBC.com! On Saturday, September 25, 2010, right in the middle of our Equine Investment Seminar, Thornewood was looking more like the set of a movie shoot than a conference for newcomers. The cameras were rolling as Soleil TF demonstrated the beauty and grace of an Egyptian Arabian while Lisa discussed the financial advantages of investing in these magnificent horses. The attached clip also aired on CNBC earlier this month, on the Nicole Lapin News program. |
